Christmas Talent Showcase

It was amazing to see so many of our talented young people perform their own improvised and scripted pieces for family and friends. We had comedy, murder and heartfelt stories that showed off everyone’s performance skills. Epic well done!

Cinderella

20-22nd December 2021

Bringing a contemporary version of this popular pantomime to Kirklees. Penguin Acting have teamed up with MJ Acting Academy and Katie Philpott School of Dance to bring some talented local performers to the stage.

Meet our lovely Cinderella played by Evie Wilcockson who is picked on by her two ugly sisters played by Tyler Barstow and Vinnie Read. Coupled with the hilarious narrators played by Jez Oldfield and Dave Cockerham, you are in for an hour of fun, family entertainment.

Come along and find out. We have a licensed bar and the pleasure of using such a lovely church venue in the heart of Kirklees.
 

A note from the Director

Thanks so much to everyone who supporting our second pantomime at St Paul’s Church in Mirfield. Although sadly we haven’t got rid of Covid, at least this year we are able to perform indoors!
 
I have brought a contemporary twist to a popular pantomime with the aim of bringing the 2021 Christmas spirit to our community.
 
We have created many new partnerships with local people and groups. I have a huge passion for the arts and making a difference to the lives of children and young people. So this year I have taken a risk and cast the majority of the production with young performers, aged 9-16 years.
 
Their commitment and hard work has made me so proud, as well as their fabulous acting skills. We hope you enjoy our mini pantomime as much as we have done creating it.

A note from the Director

I fell upon the idea for this pantomime in the summer.  I wanted to try to make light of the current situation. I didn’t do anything with it until I managed to get away to Maderia in early October with my friend. On the flight home the creative juices began to flow and in 4 hours the first draft was ready. Covid has seriously tested my resilience and created so many hurdles to jump through. From rehearsals via Zoom to all sorts of licenses but everyone has pulled together and given it their all. So the show must go on and it’s be great to beat the odds.

I am proud to have worked with such a committed and talented cast of actors. We have absolutely had a blast and we hope you do too. Thanks so much to West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit’s funding scheme to support small businesses during Covid. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Thanks so much for everyone who came out and supported us by watching in their cars this year! Also the hundreds of people who went with the sensible option and kept warm at home whilst live streaming our production. The cast and crew have been awesome persevering through the cold and the heavy rain. A huge well done to Ben Powell and Ray Uttley our lovely young people performing live for their first audience with us.
